The LokteSaid to be descendants of vulpes vulpes, the red fox, Lokte are the miniature predators of the ground. These quick creatures catch their prey with stealth and speed, creeping up on their victims and attacking. They're the main reason the dirbnoils stay in the trees.

AppearanceUnlike the dirbnoil, the differences between female and male Lokte are small. For instance, the males have two pairs of long, curled horns while the females only have one pair. When it comes to coloration, Lokte's pelts range from grey to brown to mossy green. What other colors would you expect for something that lives on the ground? However, their pelts are only these colors when they are adults. When a Lokte is born, it's pelt is usually honey brown or russet. Then the pup's fur sheds and a new coat is revealed.

BehaviorAlthough they are around the size of a dog, Lokte are very belligerent around other species. These territorial creatures form large groups called " troops" and usually gather at a certain landmark, where they sleep and generally live. This area is called a " net", which is their version of a den. Lokte live in a series of underground tunnels, forming a net-like structure beneath the soil - hence the name. A group of Lokte can consist of at least 30 or 40 members, all living and working together to keep intruders out. Just like many other species, every Lokte has a rank. Some are scouts. Some are guards. And some are too young to do much other than play. You can gather more information on ranks in the Ranks section. Oops, looks like we're out of food. Since Lokte are carnivorous, they need to hunt to survive. When it comes to finding food, Lokte hunt in groups. They're most common tactic is sneak up on the prey, wait until they're guard is down, and pounce. If the prey notices the attackers before they pounce and runs, the group of Lokte can keep up the chase for at least half an hour before getting tired. Endurance is one of their best qualities. Look's like we've got food again. Once the Lokte have made a kill, these intelligent species drag it back to the net and place it in a special "food room", called a cartle. Cartles are usually cooler than the rest of the rooms in the net, and are at lower altitudes.

CommunicationSince Lokte are similar to foxes, their communicative skills are pretty similar too. Mainly consisting of barks, whines, and howls, their language would sound pretty simple to the human ear. When we hear a high pitched Lokte bark, it actually means "Go" for them. In the rp, we'll just translate their words to English. However, when it comes to body language, well, all I can say is that it's a bit more complicated. Now, instead of typing a really long boring paragraph, I'll just make a kind of list below: GreetingsLight ear nip - playful hello Nod - formal hello Smile - polite hello PlayBark+smile: "play?" Wag tail: playful/happy Play bow: "Let's play!" standing tall+tail down: playful hello Angersnarl: Go away! Bark: More aggressive I think you get the general idea, so I'll leave it at that. Might add some more later though~

CultureNow that I've explained all the biological features, lets get to the interesting part! Although the main aim of this rp is to be realistic, I guess I can add some human qualities to Lokte's souls; like giving them a personality, culture, etc. First off, let's start with some rites and ceremonies! Initiation Whenever a loner or banned pack member returns/joins the troop, they have to go through an initiation ritual before they are accepted. Normally, for new recruits, the initiation is going out into the middle of the jungle, finding the shore, and waiting there for 5 days. If the rookie makes it back, which usually happens, they are gently nipped on the right ear by leader. Banishment The name is pretty self-explanatory. When a member breaks pack law, the punishments are usually cruel, but banishment is the worst. The convict must walk past the whole lined-up pack and receive bites, nips, and scornful looks until he leaves the line and is pushed out of the territory. A banished member will be the victim of more cruelty if he/she is spotted on the territory. Kayar Kayar is the festival of marriage, where a female and chosen male are made mates and a huge celebration is thrown. After the two touch noses, the whole pack howls in unison and everyone is free of their duties. Oluu Oluu is like a funeral. During Oluu, all the pack members (other than the pups) travel to the end of the island to burry whoever was lost. It is forbidden to speak or smile during these ceremonies. Mayii Mayii is a spiritual ceremony made after a kill, where the prey's soul is lead to The Skies by a shaman. Now for beliefs. I'm not going to get into religion and stuff, but just some simple things. The Skies The Lokte's version of heaven. The Depths The Lokte's version of hell

Ranks AlphaAs the name suggests, an alpha is the leader of the pack. The Alphas are always a female and male pair. However, they do not have to be mates. But they have to be at least close friends. They conduct ceremonies and welcome new recruits. This rank must be earned. Prince/PrincessThe Alphas' cubs will become princess and princesses, and the smartest, strongest, or fastest cub will become one of the next alphas. BetaSecond in rank. Other than Princes and princesses, betas come right after alphas. If an Alpha dies, the beta will take over if there are no princes or princesses. However, if only one Alpha dies and the other one remains, the rising beta does not have to become mates with the remaining wolf, but does have to know them well. SubordinatesPups, hunters, etc. GuardsThese are usually the strongest Lokte, who excel in training as an apprentice. They are fast, tough, and always stand their ground. Their job is to watch over the camp at night and pupsit during a hunt. MentorTeachers for the younger generation. Apprentices Teenage Lokte who are training for a chosen role. ScoutsScouts check the territory for intruders and gather information on abundance of prey. MessengersPretty self-explanatory, you think? EldersThe oldest and wisest members. They are often turned to for advice when no other solution is present. Loners, rogues, the banishedUnwanted lokte who are not part of the group.

Aging Like most animals, lokte develop faster when they are young. The average lifespan is 16 human years, but some can live as long as 20. Here is a conversion chart between human years and lokte years. In this chart, when it says "lokte - 16 human-1" it means that if you had... lets say a pet lokte, and it was a newborn, then after 1 human year it would be like owning a 16 year old if you changed the lokte into a human.
lokte - 4 years//human - 3 months lokte - 8 years//human - 6 months lokte - 12 years//human - 9 months lokte - 16 years//human - 12 months lokte - 20 years//human - 2 years lokte - 24 years//human - 3 years lokte - 28 years//human - 4 years lokte - 32 years//human - 5 years lokte - 36 years//human - 6 years lokte - 40 years//human - 7 years lokte - 44 years//human - 8 years lokte - 48 years//human - 9 years lokte - 52 years//human - 10 years lokte - 56 years//human - 11 years lokte - 60 years//human - 12 years lokte - 64 years//human - 13 years lokte - 68 years//human - 14 years lokte - 72 years//human - 15 years lokte - 76 years//human - 16 years lokte - 80 years//human - 17 years lokte - 84 years//human - 18 years lokte - 88 years//human - 19 years lokte - 92 years//human - 20 years
A young lokte is called a pup.

Now let's make one! Note: The plural form of "Lokte" is just "Lokte" And you don't need to capitalize it ^^
